MPP's Challenge Moves Aurora Resident to Take Citizenship Oath

(Aurora, ON) York Region MPP Frank Klees congratulated Aurora resident Brian Trussler on becoming a Canadian citizen yesterday after many years as a resident of Canada.

Klees announced Aurora's newest Canadian citizen at a public meeting organized to encourage support for Klees' election in the October provincial election in Newmarket-Aurora. Klees has made political involvement a theme in his election campaign, emphasizing the importance not only of voting, but also of participating in discussions relating to policies and issues of public concern.

After posing for a picture with Klees proudly displaying his citizenship certificate, Mr. Trussler told the crowd that he made his decision to apply for citizenship following a discussion with Klees about six months ago.

"Frank made the point that if we live here and take advantage of the benefits of this country, then we also have to take on the responsibilities of citizenship," said Trussler. "I told Frank that our discussion had convinced me and that I'd be making my application for citizenship. I did, and here I am today - a proud Canadian citizen."

In congratulating Mr.Trussler, Klees underscored the need for people to become involved in the political process and referred to the motto inscribed on the back of his business cards that reads:

"If you don't get involved in the political process, you are destined to be governed by those who do."

"Brian Trussler made the commitment to become a Canadian citizen for all the right reasons," said Klees. "And to know that he was motivated to do so as the result of our discussion is most gratifying. It is circumstances such as these that make public life truly worthwhile!"
