KLEES: United Empire Loyalist Day
Celebrates Our Founding Fathers & Values

(QUEEN'S PARK) Oak Ridges MPP Frank Klees, the PC Education and Citizenship & Immigration Critic today made the following statement on the occasion of United Empire Loyalist Day in Ontario:

"On June 19th 1793 at Adolphustown in Upper Canada, the first United Empire Loyalist immigration arrived in their newly adopted country to establish through their hard work and determined vision the enduring cornerstone of the Loyalist foundations of Ontario and Canada.

"On that day, Canada experienced its first multicultural immigration as the Loyalists included people from as many as ten different cultural backgrounds, including: Highland and Lowland Scots, Pennsylvania Germans, who are today known as Pennsylvania ‘Deutsch,' First Nations, English, Irish, Jews and African-Americans. They were all united by their common loyalty to the Crown under whose banner they fought during the American Revolution and to whose protection in Upper and Lower Canada they fled in its aftermath.

"Having settled here, the influence of the Loyalists was felt in every sphere of national and provincial life. Socially, culturally, economically and politically, the Loyalists established Ontario and Canada as a diverse community united by and living under the Crown.

"On behalf of Ontario PC Leader John Tory, it is my privilege today to pay tribute to our Loyalist ancestors and to congratulate their descendants – who number one of every six Ontarians – for maintaining the enduring Loyalist legacy and for following in their ancestors' footsteps with their many ongoing contributions to our society."
