KLEES: Liberals Misleading New Canadians!

(QUEEN’S PARK)  Oak Ridges MPP Frank Klees, the PC Education and Citizenship & Immigration Critic today said the McGuinty Liberals are “misleading New Canadians by claiming they have initiated certain measures to ease their entry into the workforce that are not in place at all.”

During recent comments at Sheridan College, Liberal Citizenship and immigration minister Mike Colle claimed he has “outlawed” and made it “illegal” for employers to base hiring decisions on the basis of Canadian experience alone.

“Colle should know there is no such provision of this kind in Bill 124. In fact, it was the McGuinty Liberals who VOTED AGAINST a Progressive Conservative amendment to Bill 124 that, if passed, would have established a system to evaluate and accept foreign work experience.”

Klees referred to the Fair Access to Regulated Professions Act that the Progressive Conservative Party tried to amend in Committee last December to ensure that New Canadians without Canadian work experience in their field would not be disadvantaged. But the McGuinty Liberals voted against it.

“Mike Colle is misrepresenting the Liberal record on Bill 124,” said Klees.  “It is hypocritical for the McGuinty Liberals to be touting this non-existent provision in Bill 124 when they themselves opposed the PC amendment that would have allowed foreign work experience by New Canadians to be taken into consideration, along with their experience in Canada.”
