Oak Ridges MPP Frank Klees will be the Progressive Conservative candidate in the new provincial riding of Newmarket-Aurora in the Oct. 4, 2007 election.

The local Progressive Conservative riding association will acclaim Mr. Klees at its nomination meeting Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Dinardo's Mansion at 400 Industrial Parkway South in Aurora.

The provincial riding of Newmarket-Aurora was created from a recent provincewide redistribution of riding boundaries that will see four new seats added to the Ontario Legislature.

Mr. Klees informed the Oak Ridges Progressive Conservative Riding Association of his decision to switch to run in the northern riding in April. Oak Ridges has also been split, forming Richmond Hill and Oak Ridges-Markham.

Representing the former riding of York-McKenzie, Mr. Klees, 55, was first elected in 1995. He was elected in Oak Ridges in 1999 and 2003, held two senior cabinet posts, was the chief government whip and deputy house leader in the Mike Harris government.

Mr. Klees is the official opposition critic for education and citizenship and immigration.

Meanwhile, York-North MPP Julia Munro plans to run in the new riding of York-Simcoe.
